It wasn’t long ago before I took an interest in photography. In fact, if you were to ask me five years ago, “what are your short-term goals?” I can guarantee you that doing full-time photography wasn’t even on my mind. However, life does take its twist and turns. I’ve worked tirelessly everyday to pursue my passion while turning this once called hobby into a dream career. Today, April 15th was my last day working for my part-time corporate job. Without a doubt, I will miss my boss, my co-workers, the free lunches on Mondays, the endless snacks in the kitchen, and walking the bustling Financial District in San Francisco. Even though photography has been my main gig for the last two years, I decided to go back to corporate for the extra security and support. Fast forward a year and four months later, the time has finally arrived for me to… take a leap of faith into a career that’s risky, to embark on my photography journey, to be my own boss, to not have to wake up at the crack of dawn, dress up, and take Bart every morning. Words can’t describe the emotions I feel today knowing that I’m taking this opportunity in life. I’m elated to keep moving onward with my photography and to continuously challenge myself. Most importantly, I look forward to offer even better services to my clients. If you have a dream, don’t let that dream slip away. Chase after it and work rigorously. I leave you with this image I took today with my iPhone while shopping at Walgreens. One of the photos I captured of a bridal bouquet (cc: The Petal Company) was chosen for the cover of April 2014’s Ceremony Magazine… sitting right next to Oprah Winfrey and Martha Stewart Weddings. I will keep following the light that got me here today and I hope that you will join me on this incredible adventure.
xoxo, Jasmine
I’ve been following your adventures since I saw a photo shoot you did with David Yu a few years ago. I had no idea you were also working in SF.
Yeah, I’ll still take BART from Berkeley and go to work daily for a few more years but will also tune in to the wedding shots you do every week.
Photography is still a hobby for me. I don’t think the quality of my shots is such that I could go pro. I really like shooting event photography but know there’s not the money in it; wedding and baby photography looks great but I would need to invest in equipment.
I have a Pentax K5 and a few lenses. Still practicing.
Interesting story. Keep it up.
Way to go Jasmine! I’m envious of you taking the leap out of corporate America and into your passion! Congratulations and best of luck!!
